Winter driving
Alberta law requires you to drive for conditions, and you can be ticketed if you don't. On slick roads, leave at least three times the usual following distance and don't use cruise control. Bridge decks are often slicker than the road around them.
The QEII, the road to the airport and Century Mile, is one of Alberta's busiest highways. Crews start clearing it no more than two hours after a winter storm.
In Edmonton, a car left on a main road or bus route during a snow parking ban can be fined $250. Hotel guests often praise Century Edmonton's free heated garage in bad weather.
Oilers games and event nights downtown
Grand Villa sits beside the 104 Avenue lobby of Rogers Place, where the Oilers play at home. Some visitors stop in for a meal or a drink before a hockey game. On event nights, a few things change.
- Parking: the ICE District Central Parkade charges posted event rates. Over 4,000 spots can be booked ahead for each event through Precise ParkLink.
- Train: MacEwan station leads straight to the arena's north entrance on 105 Avenue.
- Taxi: pick-up and drop-off is at the southwest corner of 104 Street and 104 Avenue.
- Roads: the City updates its list of special-event road closures every day. In the 2026 playoffs, 104 Avenue by the arena was set to close from the third period until an hour after each home game.
